Kopin CEO Named to National Academy of Engineering

Dr. John Fan Honored for Contributions to Innovation and Entrepreneurship

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. - Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), a leading developer of innovative wearable computing technologies and solutions, announced that its CEO, Dr. John C.C. Fan, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

According to the NAE, "Dr. Fan is being recognized for his distinguished contributions to engineering, 'for innovation and entrepreneurship in electronic materials and devices for displays.'" A nonprofit organization chartered by the US Congress, the NAE's mission is to advance the well-being of the nation by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and by marshalling the expertise and insights of eminent engineers to provide independent advice to the federal government on matters involving engineering and technology. The NAE's 2,590 members, including 281 international members, are charged with providing objective analysis and advice to the nation on matters of science, technology, and health.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education." Election of new NAE members is the culmination of a yearlong process. The ballot is set in December and the final vote for membership occurs during January.

The 2020 Class includes 87 nominees from the United States and 18 international members. The Induction Ceremony for Dr. Fan and the Class of 2020 will be held during the NAE's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, October 4, 2020.

Further information about the mission of the National Academy of Engineering, and the achievements of its distinguished members, can be found at www.nae.edu.
